Proclamation for the Postgraduate Programme "Musicology" for the Academic year 2016-2017

Submission of applications: until 08.31.2016


The Department of Music Studies (DMS) of the National University of Athens (UOA) organizes and runs a Postgraduate Studies Programme (PSP) entitled "Musicology", starting from the academic year 2016-17.


The (PSP) aims to provide a Master's degree (M.A.). The Master's specialization diploma allows the continuation of graduate studies leading to a PhD degree.



This proclamation involves the introduction of a maximum of 44 MSc students for the academic year 2016-2017, which are divided into the following four directions as follows:


i. Historical and Systematic Musicology (Music Theory and Analysis): up to 12 students


ii. Ethnomusicology and Cultural Anthropology: up to 12 students


iii. Music Technology: up to 10 students


iv. Byzantine Musicology: up to 10 students


The duration for the PSP is three (3) semesters. Monitoring of PSP involves tuition fee of five hundred and fifty (550.00) euros per semester.


Teaching language: Greek


Those who are interested, are invited to submit a dossier candidature from June 15 to August 31, 2016 to the Secretariat of the Department, or by registered mail sent and dated postmark up to the August 31, 2016 at the address:

Applicants must have a University degree or an official verification to have completed their studies until August 2016 along with a transcript of records.








1. Application form (attached to this notice; and administered by the Secretariat of the PSP: Faculty - Music Department, 3rd Floor, Secretariat of Music Department, tel. 2107277772, is also available at the PSP website [www.music.uoa .gr]).


2. Detailed CV (with photo in ID size) that includes information about studies, teaching, professional and research experience, knowledge of the H/PC and use scientific and artistic activity.


3. Copy/s degree/s and transcript of all years in which shall appear the final degree grade numerically and accurately.


4. Validated diploma equivalence certificate from the competent securities identification carrier, for those coming from foreign Universities.


5. Foreign Language Knowledge Certificate (Level C1).


6. Evidence of further musical education and artistic skills.


7. Publications and certificates of teaching, research, artistic or professional experience (if any).


8. Candidate’s Solemn statement that she/he can fully meet the requirements of compulsory education according to the notice and the Studies Regulation.


9. Two letters of recommendation from professors of Greek or foreign Universities.


10. A short typed text (up to one page), where the candidate analyses the reasons and motivation for candidacy and attendance of the program. The documents filed by candidates/s should be clear photocopies of original documents and are not reimbursed.
