IOANNIS KARAMPETSOS

Ioannis Karampetsos began his musical studies with the Philharmonic Society on the island of Lefkada, Greece. He went on to study at the Athens National Conservatory and at the Trompeten Akademie in Bremen, Germany, under Bo Nilsson, James Thompson and Thomas Stevens. He has also attended courses led by Paul Archibauld, James Watson, Fred Mills, Anthony Plog, Adolph Herseth, Reinhold Friedrich and Pierre Thibaud. He has performed with every orchestra in Greece, as a soloist, too, in most cases. He has performed in Greek premieres of works from the international repertoire and has also played on numerous recordings. Ioannis Karampetsos was Principal Trumpet of the Orchestra of Nations between 2003 and 2005, performing at major venues in Germany, Wales, Ireland and England as well as touring South Africa and China. He is Principal Trumpet of the Athens State Orchestra and a member of the orchestra’s Metallon brass ensemble since 1994. He teaches at a number of conservatories around Greece.
