PhD in musicology, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (1999, with honours); Magister Artium in symphonic orchestra & opera conducting, State Conservatorium “Rimsky-Korsakov” of St. Petersburg, Russia (1993, with honours); classical guitar diploma, Athens National Conservatory (1986, with honours)

 

Academic Career

Member of the academic staff of the Music Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens since 2001 (Lecturer 2001-2005; Assistant Professor, 2005-2011; Associate Professor, 2011-2015; Professor, 2015-). Member of the scientific board of the journals Mousikologia, Axiologika and Signum (of the National Technical University of Athens); member of the board of Sakis Karagiorgas Foundation; founding member and member of the first board of the Hellenic Musicological Society; member of the Internationale Helmuth Plessner Gesellschaft; collaborator of the Greek State Scholarship Foundation and the musical encyclopedia Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart (MGG). More than fifty conference participations in Greece and abroad. 

Research interests

Aesthetics of music, general aesthetics and philosophy, Greek art and popular music. Emphasis on issues of value and normativity, critical theory, philosophical anthropology.

Artistic Activity

As a guitarist, awards in international and national competitions (Milan, 1981; Athens, 1984; Athens, 1985); sound recordings of LP discs (works by D. Fampas, 1981, M. Theodorakis, 1985) and CDs (guitar concertos by Vivaldi, Villa-Lobos and M. Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Chamber Orchestra of St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Vladimir Altshuler, cond., 1994; violin & guitar duos by Paganini, 1997). As a conductor, collaborations with major Greek orchestras, such as: Athens State Orchestra, ERT National Symphony Orchestra, Athens Camerata (Armonia Atenea), Chamber Orchestra of the National Opera, Orchestra of Patras, Orchestra of the National Opera Studio, Orchestra of the Conservatories.
