He was born in Ioannina in 1977, where he grew up. His involvement with music began at the age of seven, first at the branch of the Greek Conservatory of Athens in his hometown and later at the Epirotic Conservatory.
His flute studies began at the age of ten and were completed in 2001 (he obtained a diploma from the Apollonion Conservatory of Athens) under the tutelage of Athanasios Kataras. He attended seminars by Ilias Barbas, Urs Ruttiman and Dimitris Fotopoulos. As a flutist, he has been a key member of the Ioannina Youth Symphony Orchestra since 1987, with which he has also collaborated as a soloist (flute, piccolo), giving concerts throughout Greece and abroad (France, Germany, Spain, Japan), in collaboration with distinguished foreign and Greek conductors.
His first teacher in folk clarinet was the virtuoso Grigoris Kapsalis, while his subsequent career in traditional music was based on his personal study and research. As a soloist of the instrument, he has a rich concert and recording career, as he is a founding member of the music group ‘Takım’ and the world jazz group ‘Nouveau Sextet’, has collaborated with the biggest names of the Greek music scene and has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York and at the most important cultural venues of the country.
In 2001 he completed his undergraduate studies at the Department of Music Studies of the University of Athens, where he is currently a doctoral candidate. In addition, he holds a diploma in Byzantine music (2006) and a degree in Harmony (1997).
As a teacher, he has taught traditional wind instruments at the Department of Folk & Traditional Music of TEI of Arta (2001-2005) and "traditional clarinet" at the Athens Conservatory (2006-2010). Since 2017 he has been teaching in the Postgraduate Programme "Ethnomusicology & Music Practice" at the Department of Music Studies of the Athens University of Music and Performing Arts.
