Sotirios Koutsouris holds a degree from the Department of Primary Education at the University of Patras (2016). He attended the Postgraduate Program in Byzantine Musicology at the Department of Music Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a Diploma in Byzantine Music from the School of Byzantine Music of the Church of Saint Marina in Ano Ilisia.
He worked as a teacher at the private educational institution “Theomitor” from September 2018 until January 2025. In January 2024, he was ordained a deacon and since then has been serving as Secretary of the Social Services of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, as well as coordinator of student and youth gatherings and the student summer camp programs.
Since 2020, he has also collaborated with the theological and missionary organization “Aparchi” (publishing house – online platform – internet TV), where in February 2024 he was appointed Director of Programming and Content.
Sotirios Koutsouris also has significant experience as a cantor. From 2010 to 2016, he served as protopsaltis (chief cantor) at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Livadeia. From 2020 to 2022, he was protopsaltis at the Church of Saints Anargyroi in Ilioupoli, having previously served there as lampadarios (assistant cantor) from 2016 to 2020. From 2022 to 2024, he served as protopsaltis at the Archbishop’s Chapel of Saint Andrew.
His work in the teaching of the Byzantine chanting tradition is also notable. In October 2018, he founded the School of Ecclesiastical Music “Enichima,” where he teaches and also directs the school’s namesake Byzantine choir, which actively participates in liturgical life and concert events, including major feast days at monasteries on Mount Athos. Since 2019, he has also been an appointed active teacher at the School of Byzantine Music of Saint Marina in Ano Ilisia.
