STAVROULA SPANOU

Born and raised in Athens, at the age of eight she started santouri lessons with the virtuoso Nikos Kalaitzis (Bidayala) and then with Tasos Koulouris. At the same time, he has attended oud and modal music theory lessons with Nikos Grapsas and Christos Tsiamoulis.

She has been a founding, permanent or temporary member of music groups (Orchestra of the Municipality of N. Ionia, ‘Smyrna’, ‘Eptasimo’, ‘Dithen’ etc.) with an active presence in the Greek music scene, while she has collaborated with great Greek musicians, such as composer Yannis Markopoulos and clarinet soloist Vassilis Saleas, playing at music events and festivals in Greece and abroad. She has repeatedly participated in television and radio broadcasts, as well as in the recording industry.

She is a graduate of the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology of the Athens School of Philosophy, having chosen the direction of Pedagogy, while she has completed a postgraduate course of study in Music and Motor Education ORFF at the Moraitis School.

Her involvement with teaching began in 2002. Until 2014 she worked as a teacher of santouri and music ensembles in the Music Schools of Attica, and since 2014 she has been working in primary education as a teacher of Music Education. She also has significant teaching experience in conservatories, associations and other cultural institutions. Since 2014, she has been working as a music teacher at the Music School of the University of Vienna.
